Deer Hunting / Wildlife Orchard

Not all Chinese and hybrid chestnuts drop nuts at the same time.  Two of the mother trees that we harvest from produce nuts from around October 1 through October 15 in the piedmont of South Carolina, growing zone 8a (formerly 7b).  The drop times for these 2 trees are the latest out of approximately 900 trees in our orchard.  The seed nuts that we sell from these open pollinated seedlings are not clones of their mothers, so there is no guarantee that the offspring will drop as late.  With 1/2 of their genes coming from a late dropping parent however, the likelihood is increased.  Seed nuts from these mother trees are available while supplies last.
